HANDIWORK
This was a railroad spike I picked up alongside an abandoned and somewhat uprooted railroad in Thistle, Utah. The spike was forged to shape by hammer, hardened and tempered, cleaned up with a belt-sander, and then wrapped with nylon for the handle. It's nearly razor-sharp and holds an edge well. Would be great as a hunting knife or even just for show.

This is a Knife I made for my Grandpa from some round-stock stainless steel I had lying around. I don't normally do much forging with stainless, so this was interesting to get a feel for. The round stock was hammered to rough shape and then sanded and brushed to produce a finer edge. I left marks from the hammer on the sides of the blade for looks. The handle is full tang with brass brads and the guard is made from a section of the same stainless. The wood of the handle is from a piece of oak that a friend and I found in a land fill. The same piece of oak was used to make the case for the knife. Leather on the case was from a well-worn belt. This knife now resides with my Grandpa in New York.
